The Giver

The Giver is such a good book because Jonas has to complete these volunteer hours because he is a 12 at his daycare and if he doesn’t complete his volunteer hours he will not be able to get a job. At his ceremony of 12 there was 1 kid who didn’t complete his volunteer hours so he got held back and could not get a job. So, at Jonas’s ceremony of 12 Jonas got the job of Receiver of Memory. It had been such a hard week to wait for his ceremony and he had thought his job meant nothing. He had went to his parents and asked them what his job meant and all they told him was that his job was very important. At the end of The Giver Jonas had ran away from home with Gabriel and he had never experienced rain or snow or nothing and finally after many, and many of miles he finally saw green valleys and rain and snow. I would hate to be Gabriel and not be able to barely survive.

Meloney and the Creature

By Claudia

The wind howled, sweeping the clouds across the low gray sky. The moon hung low over the tall scrawny trees. Meloney pulled herself through the woods on the side of her house. There was a growl. A low growl. A snap of a twig. A flash of white. Meloney ran through the jagged under brush, ducking under low branches and sweeping around tree trunks. She could hear the harsh panting behind her. She looked over her shoulder. Meloney could have sworn the creature had glowing red eyes and crimson stained teeth. The creature launched, missing Meloney by less then inches. Meloney broke through the edge of the forest. Another growl. A low growl. A snap of a twig a flash of white. A launch.

“Ahhh”! Screamed Meloney. Meloney just woke up from the world’s most terrifying nightmare ever. Her parents came barging in, “What happened?!” They said at the same time. “I d-d-d- don’t know” Stuttered Meloney “Of course you know. You’re the one who yelled!” Scolded Meloney’s mom. “Meloney, just tell us what happened.” Meloney’s dad said soothingly. Clearly her dad is nicer than her mom. Shouldn’t her mom be nicer than her dad? I mean she’s a mom, right? But whoa-hoa not this family it’s all upside-down and back-words. “See this is why I’m a daddy’s girl. Because you always yell at me!” Screamed Meloney with tears in her eyes. Then Meloney pushed her parents out of her room and slammed the door. “Told you our daughter isn’t a morning person” Meloney’s mom told her dad. Meloney sat her sweaty self on her sweaty bed in her now sweaty room. She looked up at the moon then it went behind some clouds or so she thought until she felt claws on her back and hot breath down her back. It was the creature from her dream.

Now Greg is dealing with the third school season. Not many things have changed but now Greg older and not really found any other friends but Greg has a crush on a girl  who doesn’t even know him. Greg has still always been a lazy bum and still is. But when his dad threatens to send him to the military school he realizes he better toughen up or get shipped out.    Don’t read this book until you are in 3rd grade and try not to turn into a book worm.

Percy Jackson Diary Entry

Dear diary,

Today Percy and I found and entrance to the labyrinth when we were being chased by gigantic scorpions. We thought we were in there for 2 minutes but we found out that we were in there for 2 hours then Chiron told us that in the labyrinth time goes fast .After that   we found out that Luke and his titan friends are trying to find an entrance to Camp Half Blood. This time I got to lead the quest but I need Percy, Grover, and Tyson .Percy                                              for his experience with the titans, Tyson for his strength, and Grover needs to find the lost God Pan but the prophecy usually states 3 hero to go on the quest about 2 days later we ask Rachel Elisabeth Dare a human who can see through the mist an illusion to cover monsters. So today we have a human leading us in the labyrinth but I’m not pleased with it I mean I’m leading this quest so shouldn’t I be  well leading everyone but I can’t see through the mist.

Diary of a wimpy kid

Diary of a wimpy kid #1
Hi this is Jeff Kinney and I am here to talk to you about this book diary of a wimpy kid #1. This book is full of action, MORONS, and well Gregory’s older brother Rodrick. Rodrick picks on Gregory a ton once he trapped Gregory in his room when he had to go to the bathroom that would go down in a big mess. A big wet mess, well I love the part when Gregory almost gets cheese touch. If you get Cheese touch nobody will want to hang out with you because you can give cheese touch to them. Until you get rid of cheese touch well  you are out of luck I have no advise for you.

Mrs. Neal's Top Ten Middle Grade Books

Mrs. Neal’s Top 10 Middle Grade Books

10. Spilling Ink by Ellen Potter and Anne Mazer
Genre:  Non-fiction
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves to  write fictional stories. It even helped me with the book I’m writing.

9. Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbit
Genre: Fantasy/Historical Fiction
*sigh* This is one of my FAVORITE read alouds! This book is such a magical story and written beautifully.

8. Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper
Genre: Realistic Fiction
I heard about this book last year, but didn’t get my hands on it until a couple of months ago. The writing in this book is beyond astounding. The way she melds her words together, sounds like music, it has such a rhythm. Melody’s story is a sweet, yet eye opening one.

7. When You Reach Me by Rebecca Stead
Genre: Mystery
This was such a fun and interesting read that kept me on my toes the entire time trying to figure out WHAT in the world was going on. The fact that the book ties in with one of my other very favorite books, A Wrinkle in Time, doesn’t hurt it either.

6. Gregor the Overlander by Suzanne Collins
Genre: Fantasy
Suzanne Collins is one of my favorite authors. She is capable of creating a fantastical world that I could actually imagine being a part of. Gregor the Overlander is an amazing book that kept me turning the pages furiously.

5. Wednesday Wars by Gary Schmidt
Genre: Historical Fiction
There is this pitiful misconception that historical fictions are boring and not a lot of fun. This book totally and completely breaks that stigma. Holling Hoodhood is a hilarious character that you can’t not like, and his teacher, Mrs. Baker, would be your worst nightmare as a student, but my hero as a teacher.

4. A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle
Genre: Science Fiction
It is hard to put into words how much I adore this book. It is a strange, crazy world full of time traveling and an enormous evil brain. What’s not to like about that?? I know I’m a bit of an eccentric reader, but I can’t understand why more kids don’t fall in love with reading because of this book.

3. Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls
Genre: Historical Fiction
*sniff, sniff* This book has such an amazing story, doubled with incredible writing. The author lived in the Ozarks where the story takes place, so his descriptions are so detailed, you can picture it in your mind easily. It is a longer book and at times hard to get through, but the ending is a beautifully tragic one that makes me cry. Every. Single. Time.

2. The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo
Genre: Fantasy
I adore this book. This book and its characters evoked more feelings out of me than any other book I’ve ever read. And that says a lot. Reading it is an emotional rollercoaster, but in the end, the theme of the story is what left me in awe of the author.

1.  The Giver by Lois Lowry
Genre: Science Fiction
I read this book when I was younger and did not fully appreciate the book until I was in college and read it again. Even then, I didn’t get the full meaning out of the book until I read it when I was in my early twenties and teaching. The reason this book is number one on my list is because I could read this book a hundred more times and still find new meaning and understanding each time I read it. Lois Lowry set the standards for dystopian/utopian literature with this book and is the inspiration for why I write today.

Chocolate Fever

Hi great to meet you. My name is Robert K. Smith I hope you’re ready because where going to talk about my favorite book called Chocolate Fever! I bet most of you had heard because I bet you read it. Those who haven’t read it I’ll give you a terrific summary of it. This kid loves to eat chocolate at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But one day he got a little carried away with chocolate. He wanted to have chocolate every day not just breakfast, lunch, and dinner EVERDAY! Soon Henry had to go to the doctor to get rid of those spots he had on his body. Henry didn’t want to but he had to face his fears. I can’t spoil the ending but I can say he got rid of his spots, when you get a chance to read it I hope you’ll enjoy it.
Please write back when you get a chance!

Frindle

Dear Students,
Nick Allen here! See, my Language Arts teacher, Mrs. Granger told the class that the dictionary was made by us people. So I thought, who says a pen has to be called a pen. So if you would like to find out everything, read the book, Frindle!                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                     Your Friend,                                                                                                                         Nick

Warriors Book 6 The Darkest Hour

Character Interview

Me: So Firester how are you feeling about the big battle with Scourge?

Firestar: I'm very nervous that my clan and the other clans will lose, because there are alot of rouges out there.

Me: Do you have a plan to win?

Firestar: No. But everyone is wishing that Starclan will help us, and rouges don't believe in Starclan so they'll have to kill me nine times before I'm dead, so I just have to kill him once.

Me: Well thank you for your time.

Firestar: Your welcome.

Summary

Now Firestar is a leader, and a great rouge has been brought into the forest.Scourge. He threatens to take over the forest with his army of rouges. My favorite part of the book is before the battle when everyone is
very sad, but training very hard. I would give this book 5 stars and recomend it for readers who like to know what cats do outside the house. A big action packed sad book that will make you gasp. Look for this book Warriors book 6: The Darkest Hour.
